Cardonald Parish Church is governed in accordance with the Model Constitution devised for Church of Scotland congregations. It has two courts: the Kirk Session and the Congregational Board. The Kirk Session deals with spiritual and general policy matters. The Board deals with temporal matters such as finance, and the maintenance of the congregation’s premises. Elders and Board Members are Trustees of the congregation.
The Kirk Session consists of the Elders, with the Minister as Moderator. Elders are appointed for life. When some retire from attending meetings, they cease to be Trustees, but remain Elders.
Our Congregational Board consists of 36 Members: 18 are Elders, of whom six per annum are appointed by the Kirk Session; and 18 are Members of the congregation, six elected at each Stated Annual Meeting, which is normally held on the first Wednesday of March. The Chairman of the Board is the Minister. Board members serve for three years at a time.
The Trustees are in the process of considering the Unitary Constitution, which has replaced the Model Constitution as normative for the Church of Scotland.
